The New OnePlus TV Has A Resolution You Won't Believe Exists In 2020

OnePlus held a virtual event for its India market today, where it announced three new TV sets. The new OnePlus TV comes in the U and Y series, and in three sizes.

The OnePlus Y series is a budget range of TVs, while the U series is a mid-ranger.

OnePlus offers the Y in a 32-inch 1366×768 resolution and a 43-inch in 1920×1080 resolution. Meanwhile the OnePlus U1, which is a 55-inch TV comes with a 4K resolution and includes HDR. The 32-inch model is pretty surprising, even for 2020, most of us didn’t know 1366×768 resolution displays were still being made. Heck, most Chromebooks have stopped using that resolution.

OnePlus Y Series TVs are “budget” for a reason

The OnePlus Y series start at Rs. 12,999 in India, that comes out to be about $173 USD. To get down to this price point, OnePlus had to ditch the premium design that the U series gets. It is still bezel-less though.

Audio-wise, it has two 10W speakers, with Dolby Audio support. No Dolby Atmos here, but at this price point, Dolby Audio is actually pretty surprising to have.

Both of the OnePlus Y TVs come with Android TV baked in, along with Oxygen Play on top. This is going to bring in some extra functionality over what Android TV offers.

OnePlus hits the premium mid-range with the U1

Now the OnePlus U1 TV is actually more of a premium mid-range TV. It comes with a nice premium design, with a thin-bezel form factor, giving it a 95% screen-to-body ratio. It is also pretty thin, coming in at 6.9mm. That’s thinner than some smartphones these days. It also “embodies OnePlus’ philosophy of burdenless user experience.”

As far as the specs go, the 55U1 has a 55-inch display (as the model number indicates). This is a 4K HDR panel, that does support Dolby Vision. And it has DCI-P3 covered at 93%. OnePlus’ own Gamma Engine is also included here, which will provide real-time image quality optimization to deliver a “smoother, clearer and more immersive viewing experience.”

The 55U1 also includes MEMC which will deliver smooth content across the panel. Reducing motion blur, stuttering and ghosting. There are also features like Noise Reduction, Super Resolution and Dynamic Contrast for improving visuals.

On top of supporting Dolby Vision, it also gets Dolby Atmos support. It has a four speaker system with an output of 30W. So the speakers are a lot more powerful than the Y series TVs.

It is running on Android TV 9, and of course features the Oxygen Play skin on top. There are also some unique features here like Data Saver Plus, Kids Mode and of course Google Assistant is on-board.

Pricing & Availability

As mentioned, the OnePlus Y series starts at Rs. 12,999. The 43-inch model comes in at Rs. 22,999 ($307 USD). And finally the OnePlus 55U1 will cost you Rs. 49,999 ($668 USD).

When it comes to availability, only the 32-inch Y model has had availability announced, and that will be available starting on July 5. Availability for the other two has not yet been announced.
