Google’s Pixel 5 is the next phone that Google will announce following the Pixel 4a, but there’s still no confirmation on a launch date.
At least it didn’t seem that way. Following Google’s announcement on the Google Blog for the Pixel 4a, the official blog of Google France (along with Google’s other regional blogs) posted about the same announcement.
In the Google Blog France post, which can now only be found through Google Cache at the time of writing (this may be removed as well), the Pixel 5 launch date is listed. It’s unclear if this was a mistake or intentional. But considering the original live post was taken down, it was probably a mistake.
The Pixel 5 launch date is likely set for October 8
It’s no secret that Google was going to announce another new Pixel phone this Fall. Like clockwork Google has been announcing and releasing new Pixel phones for the past few years, usually in the Fall.
While Google had not made any announcements officially about the Pixel 5 until the Pixel 4a blog post, there have been plenty of leaks about it. Including Google’s now apparently accidental leak of the release time frame. Which appears to be October 8.
That being said, it might be more accurate to refer to October 8 as the pre-order window. The cached version of the Google Blog France post when translated says that this date is when the phone will go up for pre-order (you can view a screenshot of the blog post below).
So technically the launch won’t be until after the pre-order phase is over. Regardless, it looks like early October is when consumers can expect to put money down for this new device.
This also means that this Google is probably going to officially announce the phone the same day as pre-orders. Or within that first week of October.
The Pixel 4a (5G) should be available the same day
The October 8 date which was first spotted by 9to5Google, also references the Pixel 4a (5G). No prices are mentioned, however.
What is mentioned is where Google plans to release both of these upcoming phones in its Pixel lineup. The launch regions include the US, the UK, Japan, Germany, Canada, Australia, France, Ireland, the UK, and Taiwan.
Naturally prices for each of those regions will probably individually announced. Google says it will reveal more information about these two new Pixel phones in the coming months.
So anything else there is to know from an official standpoint may be drip-fed to consumers leading up to the October announcement and release. Assuming of course, that these dates are actually accurate.
