According to recent estimates from market tracker firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung could sell about 500,000 units of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 this year. That’s around 100,000 units more than the Galaxy Fold sales numbers in 2019.
Samsung is expected to make significant improvements to the second-generation Fold over its predecessor. We’re looking at a bigger, punch-hole inner display, larger outer display, faster processor, better cameras, and most importantly, a sturdier body that can better survive the real-world environment. All these improvements mean the Galaxy Z Fold 2 should see better adoption from consumers compared to the original Fold.
The Galaxy Fold also suffered supply problems related to the display and hinge issues last year. Initially announced for April 26, 2019 launch, the Galaxy Fold only arrived in the market in September. The device was sold in around 60 countries by the end of 2019.
However, all the issues it faced early on may have made many potential customers skip the device and wait for the second generation Fold to arrive. There shouldn’t be any such issues this year as Samsung has probably learned the lessons last year itself. It means a steady supply chain and, hopefully, higher sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 to sell more, but Note series sales may plummet
Counterpoint Research has also published its estimates for the Galaxy Note 20 sales and it’s not very promising, at least from Samsung’s perspective. The research firm expects the new Note to sell lower than the Galaxy Note 10 last year.
It projects Samsung to sell around 8.5 million units of the Galaxy Note 20 series phones this year. That’s around 500,000 units lesser than the sales numbers of their predecessors last year. And a lot of the blame goes to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to a Counterpoint Research survey, 30 percent of consumers are looking to reduce their spending on new phones this year because of the economic setback caused by the ever-spreading global health crisis.
The Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 all launch later today along with several other Galaxy devices. Those include the Galaxy Tab S7, Tab S7+, Galaxy Watch 3, and the Galaxy Buds Live. Thanks to the tremendous amount of leaks over the past few weeks, there’s not a lot left to surprise. We pretty much know everything about these devices.
