In a recent development, the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group has clarified that the company does not plan to bring a HarmonyOS-powered smartphone in 2020.
Notably, the company is still facing the ban by the US government. And it does not seem to boil down soon. In context to this, Huawei is also banned from using Google services on its devices.
This is the reason Huawei went ahead and developed its very own HarmonyOS (HongMengOS). Tech fraternity was pretty excited and was curious to know whether future Huawei phones will come with HarmonyOS instead of Android OS.
However, note that HarmonyOS is not a smartphone dedicated-OS. It can also be implemented on other IoT devices from Huawei like tablets, PCs, etc.
Earlier we have highlighted that reportedly, Huawei was looking for opportunities to bring HarmonyOS to its smartphones, tablets, and PCs. Moreover, reports also suggested that the company is pretty adamant in equipping its future devices with HarmonyOS.
The main idea as elaborated by the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business, Richard Yu was to develop a Huawei ecosystem. In fact, this would be similar to what Apple is having currently.
Notably, recently Huawei unveiled new logos for HarmonyOS. The global and Chinese logos are pretty weird, as they are different for both the markets. The global HarmonyOS logo spots an “H” letter in it, while the Chinese logo is three separate dots.
Huawei CEO has refused the projection of introducing HarmonyOS-powered smartphone in 2020
Now, new official reports claim that Huawei will not be bringing any new smartphones or devices powered by HarmonyOS. Though Huawei has an upcoming Huawei Mate 40 series smartphones lined up for a release, the company will stick with Android OS for now.
As per a report by Sina, in Yabuli Forum Qingdao Summit, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business, Richard Yu confirmed that the company has no plans for releasing a HarmonyOS-powered device in 2020.
However, he did not rule out the fact that there will be no device in the next year. The company will continue to stick with the Android OS for now due to the already developed ecosystem.
But they will release devices with HarmonyOS to become self-reliant and develop their own eco-system in the long run. Notably, Huawei has already released a HarmonyOS-powered smart TV in China.
Huawei Mate 40 series to be the last device to come equipped with a Kirin chipset
A recent report by us highlighted the fact that the company might be unveiling a new chipset, reportedly the Kirin 1000 SoC in the upcoming IFA 2020.
Notably, the soon-to-be-releasing Huawei Mate 40 series will come equipped with Kirin 1000 chipset. This is mainly because of the trade war between the US and Huawei.
This has put a stop to any work between Huawei and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which develops Kirin chipsets for the former.
When asked about this chip-problem, the CEO did not address the question properly but mentioned that the company is looking for a solution at the moment.
