Huawei will be launching the Mate 40 series in the next couple of months. Now a new leak has reportedly shown the Mate 40 Pro screen protector with curved edges. This indicates the display could look similar to the Horizon display introduced with last year’s Mate 30 Pro.
With the upcoming Mate 40 Pro, the company could introduce new features to take advantage of its curved display edges. FYI, the 6.53-inch Horizon Display on the Mate 30 Pro came with 88-degree curved edges.
Huawei Mate 40 Pro to come with waterfall design
The company also replaced the physical buttons on the Mate 30 Pro with virtual buttons. While the company tried to enhance the experience with OTA updates, it never really felt like physical buttons. With the Mate 40 Pro, the company will likely stick with the same virtual buttons.
Additionally, a new patent suggests the company could add more virtual button features to the Mate 40 Pro, particularly when using the camera app. From the images included in the patent listing, several buttons are placed on the edge of the display. These include HDR, LED flash, White Balance, shutter button and more.
In the last year, we have seen quite a few smartphones with a similar waterfall display. While the waterfall display does offer a seamless viewing experience, the companies haven’t yet sorted the accidental touch issue. Initial leaks suggested the device might feature a 90Hz refresh display though the new leaks suggest otherwise.
It will likely run on Android 11 out of the box
The Mate 40 Pro could also become the company’s first-ever smartphone with a 120Hz display. It will also be running on the latest EMUI 11 based on Android 11. The device will continue to miss out on the Google support and lacks support for all the essential Google apps.
The Mate 40 Pro might also come with the all-new 5nm Kirin 1000 chipset made by Taiwan’s TSMC. With the US sanctions, this could be the last Kirin chipset coming from TSMC. Mainly, the next-gen Huawei P-series will adversely affect by the sanctions.
While there is no official confirmation, the Mate 40 series will most likely be unveiled in October. Alongside the Mate 40 series, Huawei is also launching a new Huawei Mate X2 foldable smartphone and a new Huawei smartwatch.
According to Counterpoint Research, Huawei became the largest smartphone brand in the world for the very first time in the month of April 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Huawei has registered a growth of 19 percent.
