Here's When The Pixel 4a 5G & Pixel 5 Will Be Released

Apparently, the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 both have a release date of September 30.

This is according to Jon Prosser, who runs the YouTube channel ‘Front Page Tech’ and has a really good track record with information about Pixels and other devices. So it’s very likely that this is when both devices are coming.

Prosser says in a second tweet, that this is “what we see in the system” noting the Pixel 5 5G and Pixel 4a 5G on September 30. With the White Pixel 4a 5G coming in October.

This year’s new color is green

The odd color this year looks to be green. Typically Google will release the phone in a black and a white model, and then a third model in a different color that changes every year. Last year it was Orange. And this year it appears to be green.

The Pixel 5 will be available in Black and Green according to Prosser. While the Pixel 4a 5G will be in Black with the white one coming later on.

Now where the Pixel 4a 5G has the second color listed as coming much later. We may end up only getting one color. The same thing happened with the Pixel 4a. Where it was supposed to come in another color, a couple months later. But Google ended up nixing that and doing black only.

Pixel 5 is coming earlier than usual

Normally, Google announces the Pixel in October. Usually around mid-October with the phone being available later that month.

This year, though, it looks like it’s coming earlier. Actually about a month earlier.

However, one thing we do not know about this information is, whether this is when the devices will be on sale or when they will be announced. If this is the release date (as in you can buy it on September 30), then that means the Pixel 5 will be announced around September 15. Putting it a full month earlier than the Pixel 4 and every other Pixel before that.

Either way, we don’t have much longer to wait for the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 to be announced. In fact, it is pretty soon after the Pixel 4a came out. Which is a bit strange, but 2020 has been a pretty strange year.

This is going to be an interesting strategy for Google though, as it is going to put the release closer to the iPhone launch. Which is typically around September 10. And given that Google doesn’t have a big market share, announcing the Pixel close to the iPhone is probably not a good idea.
