During its first-ever virtual Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung revealed very little about the Galaxy Z Fold2 smartphone. The complete details including its pricing and availability will be revealed on September 1. However, the Galaxy Z Fold2 is now certified by Chinese regulator TENAA revealing key details like dual-band 5G support.
First off, the 2020 Galaxy Fold comes with the model number SM-F9160. On the connectivity front, the device supports 5G-enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), which means it comes with dual-band 5G and works with both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks.
Galaxy Z Fold2 to support dual-band 5G connectivity
A majority of the carriers worldwide are using the sub-6GHz spectrum band for deploying 5G. Still, there are a few carriers like Verizon which currently uses only mmWave band for their 5G network. Talking about the other specifications, the new Galaxy Z Fold2 also features dual batteries with individual capacities of 2090mAh and 2275mAh.
More importantly, the device is now primarily being manufactured in Vietnam. In the past year, there have been reports about several manufacturers moving their majority manufacturing out of China. As of now, the TENAA listing is yet to get updated with complete specifications.
It will be available for pre-order on September 1
It looks like we still have to wait for the official launch day to get full details about this device. Samsung already revealed the Galaxy Z Fold2 to sport 7.6-inch Infinity-O foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.2-inch Infinity-O cover display. It uses the same flexible ultra-thin glass (UTG) that was first introduced with the Galaxy Z Flip.
The vacuum-inspired hinge with self-cleaning bristles will keep the device clear of dirt and dust. We can only know its effectiveness once the device enters real-world testing. Unlike the Galaxy Note20 series, the Galaxy Z Fold2 will get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ Mobile Platform across all markets.
Even the first-gen Galaxy Fold also came with Snapdragon chipset in the markets where Samsung sells Exynos-powered Galaxy flagships. The Galaxy Z Fold2 will be available in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze color options.
Also, there is a Thom Browne Edition of the Galaxy Z Fold2 that comes combined with Galaxy Buds Live Thom Browne Edition and Galaxy Watch3 Thom Browne Edition. The device is now available for reservations, it will open up for pre-orders on September 1.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold2 alongside the Galaxy Note20 series, Galaxy Tab S7 series, Galaxy Buds Live, and Galaxy Watch 3 on August 5.
