Galaxy Z Fold 2 Prototype Has S Pen Support, But You Can't Get It

It seems like Samsung did create a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 prototype with S Pen support. This information comes from Chun, a tipster that you may be familiar with.

He shared the information via his official Twitter handle, along with a single image. In that image, you can see a blurry screenshot of S Pen tools on a display of the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

A Galaxy Z Fold 2 prototype has S Pen support, but it won’t become available to purchase

The source says that Samsung decided not to go through with this variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The reason is unknown. So, it seems like those S Pen rumors were right after all, but Samsung decided not to include it in the end.

This gives us hope for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, that’s for sure. The Galaxy Z Fold series would be perfect to ship with the S Pen, due to its large display, both its inner and outer ones.

A rumor that surfaced quite recently even claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will launch next year instead of the Galaxy Note 21. That means that Samsung may be looking to ditch the Galaxy Note series altogether.

That rumor is probably wrong, as the Galaxy Note series is immensely popular. It would be completely unlike Samsung to do something like that, as the Galaxy Note devices guarantee quite a few sales each year.

So, even though that rumor is probably wrong, that doesn’t mean the Galaxy Z Fold 3 won’t include the S Pen. That is actually very likely, as it seems like Samsung considered including it in the Galaxy Z Fold 2 as well.

Including the S Pen means a higher price tag for the device

Including the S Pen will boost the phone’s price a bit, though. Doing something like that requires a special digitizer to be included, along with the stylus itself. Samsung also needs to find space inside of the phone to include it.

That being said, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will become fully official on September 1. Samsung did talk about the device during its Unpacked event earlier this month, but it hasn’t fully announced it.

We’ll get all the necessary details tomorrow, though. The company will host a press conference announcing its next-gen foldable smartphone. So, we should get all the spec-related info.

Samsung did unveil the design of this smartphone earlier this month, though. The phone will look much sleeker than its predecessor, and it will include much less bezel. An improved display will be included, and the same goes for its hinge.

The phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865 Plus 64-bit octa-core processor. The device will also include 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.
