Spotify Wants To Keep You In The Game With Its New Sports Feature

Spotify has long been one of the most popular places for streaming music, and now it’s got a new fancy feature for sports fans.

Naturally, it’s a new playlist of content revolving around sports. So if you long for the minute by minute plays on the field or on the court, then you may be just the user Spotify is targeting with this new sports feature.

It’s called Daily Sports, and it’s a collection of sports content that Spotify has curated for users. It won’t necessarily be unique to each user or based on personal listening habits though.

Daily Sports is the third mixed-media playlist feature on Spotify

Daily Sports is the third such mixed-media playlist on the service. Following Daily Wellness and Your Daily Drive.

With Daily Sports, listeners are getting a mix of sports talk shows, as well as music. So it won’t be all podcasts or just all music. The combination of sports content will also include sports commentary and sports news.

As noted earlier, the content won’t necessarily be unique to each user. At least not for the sports news and commentary content. The included music tracks however will be personalized and use Spotify’s algorithm to curate a specialized list of songs.

The feature is already available to users too. As it’s been rolling out officially starting today. Following Spotify’s announcement about it.

Some content will be exclusive

Sports news and commentary will come from a range of different sources. Including The Ringer, Sports News Minute with Larry Brown, ESPN Daily, The Lead and others.

Much of that content will be highlights, and likely stuff you could hear elsewhere. But Spotify also sweetens the pot by confirming that some sports news and commentary content will be exclusive. Meaning it will be the only place to get that specific content.

Both free and premium users will be able to access Daily Sports as well. So even if you don’t subscribe to Spotify Premium, you can still be in the know with details on your favorite teams.

Daily Sports will also be available on both the mobile and desktop platforms. Making it fairly challenging to miss out on any sports content you may find interesting.

Aside from sports, Spotify added a handful of other new features since the beginning of this year. Back at the end of July it added the capability to cast music straight from the desktop app. It’s also recently overhauled the UI for Android tablets and Chromebooks.
