Alongside the Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5 smartphones, Google is also expected to launch the successor to Chromecast Ultra on September 30. Despite constantly being in the leaks, there are no renders revealing the complete design of the new streaming dongle. Thanks to WinFuture, there are now a set of leaked renders of the new Google Chromecast with a remote.
The new Chromecast device will do more than just streaming content from the smartphone. It is actually the company’s first-ever standalone streaming device and comes loaded with full-fledged Google TV OS. As per the leaks, the company will also announce the rebranding of Android TV as Google TV during the same event.
New renders reveal the design of the upcoming Google Chromecast and its remote
The new Google Chromecast will work similarly to the Roku Streaming Stick and the Amazon Fire TV Stick. The Oval-shaped dongle comes with an HDMI port for connecting to any TV. It also includes a USB Type-C port for power supply. As seen on previous Chromecast devices, there is also a LED status indicator and reset button.
Speaking of the remote, the company got rid of the “Star” button that was present in the previously leaked renders. The rumors suggested this button will allow the users to open the pre-assigned app. Like the remote controller of the Google’s Daydream View VR headset, this one also features volume buttons on the side.
Remote comes with a dedicated button for Netflix
It also sports three dedicated buttons for Google Assistant, YouTube, and Netflix. There is also a circular D-pad and a few more additional buttons. As per the FCC listing, the remote comes with Bluetooth support.
In terms of performance, the dongle packs in a quad-core Amlogic S905X2 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. According to the leaked listings, the new Google Chromecast with Google TV will be available in Rock Candy, Como Blue, and Summer Melon color options.
Just like the Chromecast Ultra, the new Chromecast with Google TV will work with Stadia. When connected to a compatible smart TV, it supports a wide range of HDR standards including 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, and HLG. The dongle is expected to cost cheaper than the $70 Chromecast Ultra.
While there is no confirmation over the official pricing, the leaked retail listings suggest it might cost as low as $50. The pricing and availability details will be revealed by the company during the September 30 event.
