The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro got announced yesterday, during the Huawei Developers Conference (HDC). Well, a review sample of the device arrived to the office today. We decided to share our initial thoughts, and some hands-on images of the Huawei GT 2 Pro.
This is the company’s flagship smartwatch at this point. It is one of the more interesting watches the company released, at least from the hardware standpoint. Why? Well, Huawei used titanium, ceramic, and sapphire glass in its build.

The watch’s frame is made out of titanium, which is a higher quality material compared to stainless steel and aluminum. It’s tougher and more durable, and that is, of course, something you want your watch to be.
Sapphire is included over the heart rate sensor on the back, and also on the front. That is great news for scratch resistance, as sapphire glass is more resistant to scratches than any iteration of Gorilla Glass. Thanks to that material, the heart rate sensor is expected to be more accurate as well.
And the third premium build material that we mentioned is ceramic. The back of the watch is made out of ceramic. That material definitely offers a nice feel to the touch, and it doesn’t slide as much as regular, shiny plastic.
All in all, this is a premium smartwatch Huawei released, at least when it comes to its build materials. I’ve been using it for a short time now, but I’m quite impressed when it comes to the design.
The watch also looks really nice in general, quite modern. It can be both classy and sporty, depending on what you need. You can also easily replace its band, to fit your needs at the time.
This is the ‘Night Black’ variant of the device, with a silicone strap
The model we received is called “Night Black” and the wristband type is listed as “Black Fluoroelastomer Strap”. In other words, this watch combines black and gray colors in its build, while the strap is made out of silicone, it seems.
The strap is very comfortable, as are most silicone straps I’ve used. It seems to be well-made, and it’s a bit thicker than most other silicone straps I’ve used, which is a good thing.
The device has two physical buttons on its right-hand side. One is a home button, while the other is configurable. Those buttons are quite clicky, and louder than the ones on the Watch GT 2 and GT 2e.
There is also a speaker at the bottom right side of the watch, and microphones are also included in the mix. You can use this watch for phone calls, though you’ll have to wait for our full review to find out how good of an experience that is.
The software is similar to the one on the Huawei Watch GT 2 and GT 2e, though the touch sensitivity is a bit better on this watch. I’ve also noticed some display improvements, as colors seem to be a bit more saturated. That could be just an initial impression, we’ll see.
This smartwatch also comes with a wireless charging stand. That is not something that was offered with the GT 2 and GT 2e. That wireless charging pad is made out of plastic, but it feels well-made.
