Google’s big fall hardware event is here. And this year, Google is going with a drive-in movie theater theme, calling it “Launch Night In”. Where it is unveiling the Google Pixel 5, among other hardware products.
The show will start at 2PM ET/11AM PT. And it’ll also be live streamed on YouTube as usual. We don’t expect the live stream to last longer than an hour. Google typically announces everything within 60 minutes.
What to expect from Launch Night In?
The Launch Night In is this year’s fall hardware event from Google. And thanks to plenty of leaks, we know exactly what to expect from Google this time around. There’s a handful of new hardware products that are being announced today, and a couple that will likely go on sale later today.
First up is the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 unveiling. It may not be first in the keynote, but this is what everyone is waiting on. This year, Google is not going high-end with the Pixel series, instead, offering us a pretty great option for a premium mid-range smartphone.
The Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 are both going to be 5G-capable smartphones, and be very similar in almost every aspect. The Pixel 4a 5G is going to be bigger than the more expensive Pixel 5 actually. Both will be sporting the Snapdragon 765G chipset, with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There will also be a 6.2-inch and a 6-inch screen, respectively.
In addition to new Pixels, we’re also getting the Nest Audio smart speaker. This is said to be a successor to the Google Home speaker launched four years ago. It now has a new design, more in-line with the Google Home Max and the Nest Mini. It also has much improved audio, which is important here, as it is still a speaker.
Then there is the new Chromecast TV. This is actually a bigger deal than it sounds. The Chromecast TV is marrying Android TV and Chromecast. Combining it into one device, and it’ll now come with a remote. Additionally, Android TV is set to get a rather large redesign, and even rebranded to Google TV – again.
There’s also the possibility that we could get a few more products from Google at this event. It normally announces a handful of new products, so we could see a new Nest WiFi product, which hit the FCC rather recently too.
Either way, we don’t have much longer to wait. Join us for the Google Pixel 5 unveiling.
