Waze Now Supports Sending Directions From Web To The App

Waze has introduced a nifty new feature for sending the directions searched on its website to the mobile app. This new feature comes in handy for those who plan their entire trip on a computer. Moreover, it works with both Android and iOS smartphones.

The company is using the QR codes for quickly sharing the data instead of logging in with username and password. However, users need to have the Waze app installed on their smartphones and be signed in.

Waze gets support to send directions from web to its app using a QR code

Starting today, the Waze Live Map on the desktop browser will show the “Save to app” button while searching for directions. When clicked on it, a QR code will be displayed. All the user needs to do is scan the QR code using the smartphone camera app to try this feature.

There will be a notification sent to the smartphone with the directions searched. In addition, the QR code scanning has to be done only once. Besides, users can also set the “leave now” or “arrive by” time to get notified to start the trip at the right time.

It works with the stock camera app on most smartphones

While the stock camera app on all the latest smartphones comes with QR code scanning functionality, the website explicitly mentions Android users with Android 8.1 and lower versions to use a dedicated QR reader app.

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this might not be the best time to leave your house. Once everything gets back to normal, this new feature will help save some time while planning those long road trips. Furthermore, Waze will also show saved locations on the web for logged-in users.

Besides avoiding entering your home or office location every time, this new feature will also allow you to plan for the entire week. Last month, the Waze app on iOS and Android smartphones received a new feature showing railroad crossing warnings.

According to Waze, it has worked with government organizations to get the data in some countries, but it is community-sourced in other countries. Interestingly, Google Maps has had this feature for a very long time.

In addition to the most popular Google Maps, Google also owns Waze. Recently, the company has also integrated the Google Assistant to its voice control feature in the Waze app for iOS. While it was initially limited to Android users in the US, it is now finally available for iOS devices as well.
