OnePlus 8T Teardown Video Shows How Two Batteries Are Put Together

OnePlus has been releasing a new smartphone every alternate month. And this month, the company released the ‘T’ variant of its 2020 flagship, the OnePlus 8T.

Notably, the company did not release the OnePlus 8T Pro and also has no plans of launching it. The reason coined by the company is pretty simple and clear.

OnePlus believes that all the latest and greatest hardware and software has been implemented with the OnePlus 8T. So, there is not much room to bring anything new to the Pro variant of the phone.

Thus, the company scrapped the Pro variant this time around. We are not sure if this tradition will continue with future OnePlus phones. But for this time, there will be no OnePlus 8T Pro.

In a teardown video by YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything, it showcases the internals of the device, followed by a rigorous durability test.

Zack puts the phone under his traditional scratch and bend test. The OnePlus 8T, just like some other current smartphones, starts scratching at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7.

OnePlus 8T teardown video shows a crease is visible at the center of the battery

The OnePlus 8T comes with a quad-camera setup with a 4,500 mAh-capacity battery. In the teardown video, a crease is evident at the center of the battery depicting two halves of the batteries.

Now the thing to note is that the phone supports 65W fast charging. And charging a single battery with such high power would cause an explosion, or it may catch fire.

This is the reason OnePlus opted for two batteries with a capacity of 2,250mAh. The super-fast charger will then charge both the batteries, allowing for double the power to be utilized.

Basically, the 65W fast charging is hypothetically divided into two halves to charge both the batteries. Meaning that two 32.5W systems work in parallel to charge the battery on the phone.

Moreover, as always, OnePlus phones do not come with an official IP dust and water-resistant rating. And the same is the case with the OnePlus 8T.

The video shows that there is no waterproofing on the speaker. However, there is a rubber gasket used for the USB-C port to resist water.

Additionally, the speaker module also has some foam balls to boost the audio output of the OnePlus 8T. The copper cooling pad also extended beneath the battery to help enhance thermal management while fast charging.

The OnePlus 8T is available for purchase via different sources. There are two configurations, i.e. 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
