The OnePlus 9 has a sour codename, it seems. Its codename has been revealed by a well-known tipster, Max J., who shared the info via Twitter… and confirmed it directly via a personal message.
The device’s codename is ‘Lemonade’. In his tweet, Max J. shared what seems to be a frame of a phone. Do note that we’re probably looking at just a placeholder frame here.
It does have an alert slider, on the right, as a number of OnePlus smartphones thus far, but it’s probably just a placeholder. The source could share more information in the near future, as he’s usually the one who shares a lot of OnePlus information ahead of time.
This codename has been mentioned before, but not in regards to the OnePlus 9
If this codename sounds familiar, there’s a good reason for it. This codename was shared back in September by XDA Developers’ Mishaal Rahman. He mentioned that a phone with a ‘Lemonade’ codename is in the works.
He did not mention this is the OnePlus 9’s codename, though. What Mr. Rahman did mention is four lemonade-related codenames. In addition to ‘lemonade’, lemonadep, lemonadept, and lemonadev devices have also been mentioned.
These are probably different variants of the OnePlus 9. We’re probably not looking at four OnePlus 9 variants in general, though. These could be variants for different markets or something of the sort.
The chances of OnePlus releasing more than two OnePlus 9 devices are not that high. Anything is possible, as the company has been branching out lately, but this is still a bit of a stretch.
Speaking of which, the OnePlus 9 is expected to become official in mid-2021, presuming that OnePlus has no plans to change its release cycle. The company usually releases its next-gen flagship mid-year.
This smartphone, or should I say smartphones, will be fueled by the Snapdragon 875, almost certainly. That is Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship SoC that will launch later this year.
The phone will ship with Android 11 out of the box, and it will almost certainly support both fast wired and wireless charging. More information will follow in the coming weeks / months.
