Google may launch a premium Pixel smartphone sooner than you think. A new rumor surfaced, claiming that it may happen in the first quarter next year. To be more accurate, it says that the device is coming in March 2021.
This information has been relayed by Max Weinbach, a well-known tipster. That being said, not even he is convinced by it. He says that two people shared the info with him, but that he doesn’t really buy it.
Google may launch a premium Pixel flagship in Q1 2021, but it’s highly unlikely
He used the term “unsubstantiated rumor”, so do take it with a grain of salt. Google doesn’t have a habit of releasing phones in the first quarter in general, let alone releasing flagship-grade smartphones.
As most of you know, the Google Pixel 4a, 4a 5G, and 5 have all been released by the company. The Google Pixel 5 is the most powerful one, and yet it comes with a mid-range SoC.
Many people have been waiting for a high-end device from the company this year, but that didn’t happen, and it won’t happen, it seems. The Pixel 5 is a great phone, far from it, but it’s not cutting edge.
A leaked Android document from August denies this rumor
That being said, this rumor is contradicting a leaked Android document from back in August. That document suggested that Google doesn’t plan to launch Pixel 6 until Q4 2021, which is when it usually launches its flagships.
That very same document also stated that the Pixel 5a may arrive in Q2 2021. So, it seems like Google is not planning to launch a smartphone in Q1 2021, at least based on that info.
Based on the timing of this alleged release (as reported by a new rumor), this upcoming premium Pixel phone is supposed to ship with the Snapdragon 875. We’ll see what source was accurate, but take this rumor with a grain of salt. No matter how nice it would be to see something like that to happen, chances are it won’t happen.
