Spotify has explained to users why it does not support offline Wear OS playback. As reported Android Police, many customers are not happy that it offers playback to Tizen but not Wear OS.

Spotify has been hard at work to make improve its platform in a number of ways over the last few weeks and months. For example, back at the start of October, the company made it possible to search for songs by lyrics.

Prior to this, Spotify also introduced Promo Cards to the platform. These were designed to make it easier for users to share and promote podcasts as well as music on social media.

This latest explanation as to why Wear OS does not have Spotify offline playback support essentially boils down to some miscommunication. Spotify marked request as ‘implemented’ but then went onto say that this would be impossible due to the large number of devices on the Wear OS.

Spotify sparks anger amongst Wear OS users

The main reason for such a desire for offline playback amongst Wear OS users is because of the loss of Google Play and the lack of YouTube Music. As a result, users have hit the forum to try and convince Spotify to add a new feature.

Initially, it appeared to be good news as Spotify’s Community Manager shared links to support pages. These noted the ability had been implemented. However, users did not see any difference on their devices.

Spotify explained this in terms that did not please many Wear OS users. It essentially said that marking this action as ‘implemented’ would be very difficult. This is due to the number of devices encapsulated under the Wear OS banner.

The statement cites variations in platform, software and hardware limitations as a bit of a footnote. However, it appears there has been a miscommunication somewhere along the line. This is because it seems that Spotify has claimed the feature as ‘implemented’ yet impossible at the same time.

By the same logic, Spotify would not be able to take any requests for its Windows and Android apps as well. They are much bigger categories than Wear OS is meaning there is something more at play here.

The likely miscommunication will serve as no comfort to Wear OS users. Many got their hopes up that offline playback would come to their devices. However, it now looks like that is a near impossibility.  Overall, Spotify has not managed this situation well at all.
