Samsung is reportedly readying a new budget smartphone under the Galaxy M series. Recently, the back panel of the rumored Galaxy M12 smartphone leaks online. Thanks to Onleaks, we now have an unofficial first look at the design of the upcoming Galaxy M12 budget smartphone from Samsung.

Unlike the current Galaxy smartphones, this new device will sport a square camera module on the rear. It looks identical to the recently launched Galaxy A42 5G smartphone but comes with a completely different back panel design. The Galaxy M12 offers a two-tone pattern on the back panel.

Here’s your first look at the design of the Galaxy M12 budget smartphone

While the top section comes with a patterned design, the lower portion offers a glossy finish. On the front, it sports an Infinity-V notch display instead of Infinity-U type. Considering it is a budget smartphone, the bezels around the display are slightly thicker than we would like. Currently, there’s no word about the specifics of the cameras.

According to the source, Samsung will likely launch the Galaxy M12 in early 2021. Both the power button and volume rocker can be spotted on the right edge of the device. Also, the fingerprint scanner on this device is built into the power button. Since there is no in-display fingerprint scanner, the device will most likely miss out on the AMOLED panel.

It comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner

While the square camera module on the rear features the four camera sensors, the LED flash sits just below it. The 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille are placed on the bottom of the device. It comes with a plastic unibody design featuring curved edges and rounded corners.

The Galaxy M12 will measure 163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm, 10mm if you measure thickness at the camera bump. It will come with a 6.5-inch display that might default to HD+ resolution. This new smartphone in the Galaxy M series will be the successor to Galaxy M11 launched earlier this year.

Though the Galaxy M11 is the most affordable Samsung smartphone featuring a punch-hole display, it came equipped with a low-powered Snapdragon 450 mobile platform. With the Galaxy M12, the company might switch back to using the in-house Exynos chipset.

Based on the previous leaks, the Galaxy M12 might also launch as Galaxy F12 in some markets. As of now, the Galaxy F smartphones are exclusively sold via Indian e-retailer Flipkart. The recently launched Galaxy F41 is also a rebranded Galaxy M31 smartphone.
