Samsung has been keeping itself busy and on Friday, it announced a new SmartThings Find app. With the help of this app, users will be able to find their connected Galaxy devices.
Notably, this Samsung SmartThings Find app will arrive on all Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world as a part of a software update. Moreover, it supports devices running Android 8 or above.
Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, said that Samsung SmartThings Find app would make users’ life less stressful when it comes to searching for misplaced Galaxy devices.
To give you some context on how it works, the SmartThings Find app makes use of AR technology in conjunction with maps and sounds. This, in turn, helps you accurately and easily detect misplaced Galaxy devices.
Besides, with the SmartThings Find the app, Galaxy owners can find their misplaced devices even if it’s offline. Apparently, once the device goes offline for 30 minutes, it automatically produces a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) signal and ultra wide-band tech received by other devices.
BLE finding capabilities are available on Galaxy smartphones and tablets, running Android 8 or above. Additionally, Galaxy Watch devices running Tizen 5.5 or later, and Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Buds Live. And the ultra wide-band tech is available on Galaxy Note20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold2.
Samsung SmartThings Find user data is encrypted and securely protected
Users will be able to locate misplaced Galaxy devices such as smartwatches, tablets, and earbuds. The user has to report that their device has been lost via the SmartThings Find app. And any other connected Galaxy device will alert the Samsung server about the misplaced devices’ location.
There is nothing to worry about data loss. In fact, all the Samsung SmartThings Find app user data is encrypted and securely protected. Basically, meaning that your device’s location data will not be revealed to anyone.
Using this app is also very easy. If you want to locate any misplaced device, the user can open the SmartThings Find app on their smartphones or tablets.
Their smartphone will show you the exact location of the device on the map. Once the user is close to the lost device, they can either choose their device to ring or locate it using AR.
AR will show the color graphics that increase the intensity when the user gets closer to the lost device. This service will be available to select Galaxy devices this year.
Samsung plans to expand these capabilities to help users locate their favorite items. Using tracking tags, lost Galaxy devices or other items can be traced as well.
