Sony Puts The Kibosh On Cool PlateStation 5 Faceplates For PS5

As it turns out, Sony takes its PS5 intellectual property pretty seriously, having just put the kibosh on the operations of PlateStation 5, which made aftermarket PS5 faceplates that you would have been able to customize your new console with.

Once you got it of course. Last week, PlateStation 5 was discovered. A new company out of London, PlateStation 5 has already run into issues. It promised to deliver aftermarket PS5 faceplates to consumers who wanted a slightly more colorful look.

Sadly, PlateStation 5 is no more. According to reports from both Push Square and from Video Games Chronicle, you won’t be getting any custom faceplates for your PS5. At least, not unless they’re either made by Sony itself or they’re officially licensed by other brands.

Orders for the PlateStation 5 custom PS5 faceplates are being cancelled

PlateStation 5’s popularity was short-lived. Because Sony reached out to the company and asked it to change its name. Not more than a day or two after PlateStation 5 popped up, mind you. And of course the company complied.

Fast forward a few days, and Sony sent out additional correspondence telling them to cease and desist and cancel all orders. PlateStation 5, which is now known as CustomizeMyPlates, says it will be cancelling all orders in compliance with Sony’s wishes.

That means if you’re one of the people that had already placed an order for one of these custom faceplates, you should be keeping an eye out for a refund in the near future. Presumably, there will be emails sent out telling you about the refund. But it’s probably a good idea to keep an eye on your bank account as well.

Just in case you run into any problems with refunds bot being applied.

Perhaps Sony really does have plans for its own version of these

It’s been speculated before that Sony may eventually sell custom faceplates for the PS5. That being said Sony itself has never confirmed this was going to happen.

In its teardown video from October, it did confirm that you can take the console’s panels off. Rather easily too. But this was done expressly for the purpose of tearing down the console.

Still, with how easy it is to snap these panels off, one could certainly assume that there is a plan to sell different colors and designs of these panels to customers. Some are not fond of the white on the console. And custom faceplates would have fixed that.

However it appears you’ll have to live with the factory design and look. At least for now.
