Motorola has taken wraps off its newest Moto G series mid-range smartphone. The new Moto G9 Power, which has been doing rounds on the internet pretty frequently over the past few weeks, is now official with several notable upgrades over existing Moto G9 models.
Moto G9 Power specifications
To begin with, the Moto G9 Power packs a massive 6,000mAh battery that, according to Motorola, can keep the phone running for up to 60 hours (or about 2.5 days) on a single charge. This is the first Motorola smartphone to come with a battery pack of this capacity.
6,000mAh batteries on a smartphone aren’t entirely new though. In fact, Samsung already offers a handset with a 7,000mAh battery and has one more in the pipeline. And while battery endurance would vary greatly depending on usage and various other circumstances, the Moto G9 Power should still take you through the day comfortably with some energy to spare. You’re getting 20W fast wired charging to top up the battery.
The new Motorola handset also introduces a 64-megapixel camera for the very first time in a Moto G series phone. A 2-megapixel macro lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor flank the main camera at the back. The square-shaped camera bump also houses an LED flash. A capacitive fingerprint scanner is likely embedded in the batwing Moto logo on the back panel.
The front-facing camera is a 16-megapixel sensor. Motorola is offering “Quad Pixel binning technology” with both front and rear cameras, allowing for “4x more light sensitivity” to produce sharper and brighter photos in low-light conditions. The Lenovo-owned company is also bringing back the spot color feature on this handset.
The Moto G9 Power sports a massive 6.8-inch Max Vision Full HD+ punch-hole display, which is probably a 60Hz panel. Under the hood is a modest Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC with 4GB of RAM. The 128GB of storage capacity is expandable by up to another 512GB via a MicroSD Card.
You aren’t getting 5G or wireless charging support, and the device, sadly, runs Android 10 out of the box. It misses out on any sort of IP rating as well, although the company promises a “water repellent” design.
Price and availability
As you’d have guessed judging by the modest specs, the Moto G9 Power is an affordable smartphone that will set the buyers back by just €200 (~$240). The handset comes in Metallic Sage and Electric Violet colors and will launch first in Europe. It’ll reach select markets in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East in the coming weeks.
Motorola has not made any US availability promises for the Moto G9 Power as of now. So it’s unclear if the device will ever come stateside. If it does, then it should comfortably sell at a sub-$250 price.
