Mozilla on Tuesday announced that it is rolling out Firefox 84 on Android. Although the changelog is pretty short, the update brings some nifty features to the table.
Notably, Firefox has re-written Firefox for Android earlier this year. This was followed by multiple updates from Mozilla. Some of the updates even brought back several features from the older versions.
Firefox 84 is now live for Android users via the Google Play Store, and it also includes some returning features. Additionally, there are some performance upgrading features as well.
One of the most prominent features of this new Firefox 84 update for Android is the ability to view the open tabs in grid view. You can now view the opened tabs side-by-side in a grid view.
However, do note that you will have to select grid view for tabs in Firefox as the list view is still the default option. And to that, you have to tap the 3-dot icon and choose your tab view.
Grid view comes in handy if multiple tabs are open. You can open and close any of the tabs opened more easily in grid view.
Firefox 84 also adds the ability to delete downloaded files within the app
Well, that’s not all. Firefox 84 on Android adds the ability to delete downloaded files within the app. This is nifty, as you don’t have to open the file manager to delete the downloaded files.
Another feature that Firefox 84 is adding to the browser is WebRender Composite Engine. This will be beneficial for those who use the Firefox browser on the Mali-G GPU series, as it will bring smoother animation and scrolling for Android users.
The WebRender is already enabled for most devices running Adreno GPUs. So after this release, Firefox on Mali-G series GPUs will also run a lot smoother and will provide a good browsing experience.
The update also improves scrolling accuracy and control. Moreover, Firefox 84 also improves and fixes the cases of unexpected scroll acceleration.
Last month, Firefox added support for new plugins including FoxyProxy, Bitwarden, AdGuard AdBlocker, Tomato Clock, etc. And this new update is in line to keep the browser competitive with other browsers and also keep it fresh.
The update is now available via the Google Play Store. And if you use Firefox on Android, then you should have received an update, or else you can manually check for the update.
