Don't Get Your Hopes Up For A Galaxy Z Fold Lite

There’s been some talk of a “Lite” foldable from Samsung coming in 2021. And it looks like it won’t be a Galaxy Z Fold Lite. But instead a Galaxy Z Flip Lite. Which would make more sense actually.

This is according to Ross Young, who is a leading analyst at DisplaySearch. This information comes from displays that are being bought up for 2021. So while it is likely true we may not see a Galaxy Z Fold Lite, this information isn’t quite bullet-proof. Young has been pretty accurate in the past though.

A Galaxy Z Flip Lite is a much better idea

So why would a “lite” version of the Galaxy Z Flip be a better option than a “lite” version of the Galaxy Z Fold? Well, the Galaxy Z Fold Lite would likely still be too expensive for most people. While the Galaxy Z Flip is already closer to mainstream phone prices. So cutting a few corners here and there, the Galaxy Z Flip Lite could easily be priced under $1,000 or near it – thanks to the 5G tax.

Not to mention the fact that most people are going to prefer the way the Galaxy Z Flip works. It’s basically a flip phone, and not a phone that folds out into a tablet. Which is also thicker, and it’s like carrying two phones in your pocket, instead of just one. So it’s much heavier.

Young does mention that there are three foldables coming from Samsung next year. That is likely the Galaxy Z Flip 2 (could end up being called 3, so it’s in line with the Fold), Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip Lite. While OPPO, vivo an Xiaomi are actually planning to launch four. And there’s one coming from Google, which is likely to get the most attention.

2021 is set to be a big year for foldable smartphones, indeed.
