Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy S21 lineup next month, but many details have already been leaked out. The latest leak reveals the specifications of the ultra-wide camera on the Galaxy S21 smartphones.
All three smartphones in the Galaxy S21 lineup will come equipped with the same Sony IMX563 ultra-wide sensor. It is a 1/2.55-inch sensor with 1.4µm pixels and a 12-megapixel resolution. As per the leak, the sensor will add dual Phase Detection autofocus (PDAF). With autofocus capability, the same ultra-wide sensor can also be used for macro photography.
Which should be a nice feature addition if this is something you think you might use on your smartphone when taking pictures.
Samsung Galaxy S21 ultra-wide camera specifications leaked
There will be no need for Samsung to add a dedicated sensor just for capturing macro photos. Even the ultra-wide camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra has similar specifications but lacked the autofocus feature. Moreover, the Galaxy S21 smartphones will also offer a 123-degree field of view (FoV). It is slightly wider than the 120-degree FoV of the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s ultra-wide sensor.
The leaks surfaced as early as last month revealed the complete design of Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphones. While the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21+ will reportedly feature triple rear cameras, Galaxy S21 Ultra will likely come with a quad-camera setup on the rear.
Speaking of the other rear cameras, both the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21+ will come equipped with a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera. On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is rumored to launch with a 108-megapixel primary camera, most likely ISOCELL HM3 sensor, and two 10-megapixel telephoto cameras.
While the first telephoto sensor offers 3x optical zoom, the second one will have a much better 10x optical zoom. As always, Samsung will continue to launch flagship smartphones powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets only in the US, China, and South Korea. The rest of the world would find Exynos 2100 chipset inside their Galaxy S21 smartphones.
We have to wait and see how big a difference will the ISP’s of these chipsets will impact the output. Based on the previous leaks, the Galaxy S21 series will retail from $849, which is $150 lower than the starting price of the Galaxy S20. However, the official details of the Galaxy S21 will only be revealed during the Unpacked event scheduled for January 14.
