Galaxy Z Fold 3 To Sport A "Slimmer & Lighter" Design Than Its Predecessor

In a presentation at this year’s Samsung Investor Forum, Samsung has vowed to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with a slimmer and lighter design than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Samsung says it wants to keep refining its foldable smartphone formula. In fact, Jongmin Lee, executive director of the planning team of Samsung Electronics’ wireless business division, said that the future Galaxy smartphones will sport a thinner and lighter design.

The company says that foldable is not a mainstream product category, but Samsung intends to make it one. Moreover, Samsung also clarified that foldable phones are not an expansion of existing smartphones, but a completely new field.

So, new innovations and enhancements would be more prominent in foldable smartphones. Samsung is the undisputed king in the foldable smartphone category at the moment.

The South Korean giant has already introduced the second generation of its foldable device, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 this year. Apparently, it touched and improved all the shortcomings that its predecessor had.

Samsung said during the Investor Forum that the Galaxy Z series would be at the center of its ambitions. It intends to refine its technologies in order to boost its competitiveness in the long term.

Samsung will continue refining the form factors of both Galaxy Z Flip & Galaxy Z Fold

According to the presentation presented at the forum, survey data shows that consumers picked foldable devices because of the large screen real estate.

Around 93% of the users were satisfied with the screen size of the devices, as per the internal customer survey. Because it gave them a sense of immersion and more space to consume content.

The three major reasons for purchasing the Galaxy Z Flip, as per the survey, are new shape, portability, and design. Good thing is that the company will continue refining the form factors of both the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold devices.

Lee mentioned that this year foldable phones brought in ten major improvements compared to last year’s products. This includes ultra-thin glass, sturdy hinge, screen expansion, improved multitasking, flex mode, and camera, etc.

FYI, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 weighs 282g, while the Galaxy Fold (1st-gen) was 276g. Samsung wants to improve in this front and bring portable form factors for foldable devices.

Since the foldable devices have been appreciated by the consumers, the company wants to refine them in more meaningful ways. Samsung aims at introducing some momentum in the saturated smartphone market.

It will be interesting to see what new improvements the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 will pack. Supposedly, it will come with an S-Pen, and it might also sport the under-display camera tech as well.
