Last year, we saw Sony trying to up its game and releasing a bunch of Xperia devices. Now, the first look at the Sony Xperia 1 III has been shared, which is the successor to the 2020 flagship, the Xperia 1 II.
Well, first impressions, the device sports a familiar design to previous Sony Xperia models. No. We are not saying that there is anything bad with the design. But in this rapidly changing smartphone market, freshness in design is one thing that can keep fans on their toes.
The renders were leaked by reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, aka Onleaks. Looking at the image, it seems like the size of the Sony Xperia 1 III has been reduced. However, the size of the display remains unchanged.
Sony Xperia 1 II was one of the best phones to hold on hands. By sticking with the same design and reduced size, we expect similar from the Xperia 1 III.
Talking about other rumored specs about the device, the Sony Xperia 1 III will feature a flat 6.5-inch 21:9 aspect ratio CinemaWide 4K HDR OLED panel. So, no fancy curved display or anything as such.
The resolution will remain at 3840 x 1644 pixels. As as far refresh rate is concerned, we think Sony may not get leap from 60Hz to 120Hz or even 90Hz like the Xperia 5 II.
Xperia 1 III may come with a triple camera setup and a 3.5mm headphone jack
Sony Xperia 1 III is speculated to sport the same triple-camera module that we have seen in its predecessor. However, this time around, Sony might jump the periscope lens bandwagon.
Apparently, Sony is rumored to swap the telephoto lens for the periscope lens. If this happens then, Sony Xperia 1 III will have a fighting chance with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
There is not much clarity regarding the other two lenses on the phone. Future leaks might reveal details about them. The phone retains the 3D iTOF sensor and there is the familiar ZEISS T coating.
On the right side of the frame, there is the volume rocker along with the power button. The power button also acts as the fingerprint scanner. No under-display fingerprint scanner, unfortunately.
Just like the Xperia 5 II, Xperia 1 III gets an additional button alongside the textured shutter button. We speculate it will be a dedicated Google Assistant button. There is a dedicated MicroSDXC slot and dual front-firing speakers as well.
The bottom of the Xperia 1 III houses a USB Type-C port and microphone. Sony is still keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone and there is a secondary microphone on the left side of the Xperia 1 III.
As for the dimensions, the Xperia 1 III measures 161.6 x 67.3 x 8.4mm, excluding the camera bump. No details regarding the launch date have been reported. But taking a look back, we hope that Xperia 1 III should make a debut next month.
