Pioneer has announced the DMH-WC5700NEX head unit, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This new head unit is an interesting one, because it has a modular display, and it is super simple to install.
The DMH-WC5700NEX has a 6.8-inch capacitive LCD touchscreen that will mount to the dashboard, with a trim kit like any other after-market head unit. It’s about as thick as a chonky tablet is these days. And that allows for easy installation in vehicles that do not have the DIN slots for an aftermarket in-dash receiver. Like the Chevrolet Camaro, Silverado and the GMC Sierra for instance.
On this head unit, the main control unit will connect to the touchscreen with a single cable. Which is able to be hidden away quite nicely.
The DMH-WC5700NEX supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
Since this is part of the NEX lineup from Pioneer, it does support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. So no matter the phone you are using, you can connect your phone here. It supports both wired and wireless options for both CarPlay and Android Auto. Which is a really nice feature to have, especially for those that are looking to go wireless Android Auto in 2021.
There is also Amazon Alexa included, along with HD radio tuning. There is also a flexible customizable interface available.
Users are able to upgrade the head unit with an add-on SirusXM satellite radio tuner and rear camera system.
Pioneer has not yet announced pricing and availability for the DMH-WC5700NEX just yet. But expect this to be a bit expensive, and to be available later this year. Likely in the second half of 2021. That’s just how these things work, when there is no availability time-frame given, it’s usually going to be quite a few months before it is made available.
