Xiaomi's New Google Assistant Smart Clock Has The Thickest Bezels You've Ever Seen

Xiaomi announced its first Google Assistant Smart Clock today in Europe, for  €49.99 (about $60 USD) – the Mi Smart Clock. Making it the first Google Assistant-powered smart clock, from someone other than Lenovo.

The Xiaomi MI Smart Clock will pack a 3.07-inch display, with a 800×480 resolution. Yeah, that’s a pretty low resolution for 2021, but you aren’t going to be watching Netflix on this. It’s mostly just to be used as an alarm clock. It also has some super huge bezels all around. Which makes the 3.07-inch alarm clock a lot bigger than you’d expect it to be.

On the speaker side of things, there is a 1.5-inch full frequency speaker inside. Giving you some decent sound experience here. Don’t expect this to be the best sounding speaker out there – don’t forget this size is really small.

Google Assistant is built-in

The Xiaomi Mi Smart Clock is outfitted with Google Assistant as well. With two built-in far-field microphones available for asking Google different things. And of course, controlling your smart home products.

The display can also be used as a live feed for any security cameras that are in your home. It can also be used as a digital photo frame with Google Photos. So it can do a bit more than the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential.

It also has Chromecast built-in, for streaming music.

When it comes to specs, there is 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage inside. It also supports WiFi 2.4GHz on b/g/n networks and Bluetooth 5.0 BLE.

The Xiaomi MI Smart Clock will be available in Europe fairly soon, though no specific release date has been announced yet. It’ll cost €49.99 as mentioned already. There’s no word on it coming to the US. That wouldn’t be a surprise, since most of Xiaomi’s products are not available in the US, at least not yet.
