Xiaomi's New Haptic Feedback System Works With Gestures

According to XDA via Xiaomi’s own Telegram, Xiaomi is working on a new haptic feedback system. Xiaomi’s new haptic feedback system allegedly will respond to gestures. The new system was skipped over when Xiaomi announced new features that were present in MIUI 12.5.  Some of those features included an updated Notes app, privacy changes, and more.

Xiaomi’s new haptic feedback system is allegedly being worked on by Xiaomi to be added to MIUI 12.5. According to the company’s own Telegram channel, the new system will provide realistic feedback to touch inputs. This includes several gestures. In addition to this information, there is also a demo with a plethora of screenshots.

As seen in screenshots, the new “Natural Touch” feedback system provides an additional dimension to everything you can see and touch. In addition to the natural touch feedback, there will be three different types of haptic feedback. The haptic feedback system will offer a crisp base, and pop. These different types will vary based on the actions you perform.

Each of the three different types offers up a different feel. Firstly, the crisp option has a high frequency and is triggered when copying text, increasing or decreasing volume, or tap-and-hold actions. Secondly is the base option. This low-frequency feedback triggers when performing swipe gestures.

Lastly is the pop feedback option. This option offers elastic feedback that triggers when opening context menus. A fourth Realistic feedback style joins these three. The Realistic feedback triggers when interacting with notifications. For example, unlocking your device with the fingerprint scanner will trigger Realistic feedback.

Thankfully, there is a video demo to give a better idea of how this new system will work. A video shows how the features work better than screenshots. The video demo shows what kinds of vibrations you may get while performing different actions.

Now, Xiaomi has not given any extra information regarding this feature yet. Currently, only Chinese MIUI 12.5 builds will see this feature. This information comes from XDA Senior Member and frequent Xiaomi tipster kacskrz. Unfortunately, this means that it is disabled in international MIUI 12.5 builds.

Hopefully, Xiaomi will bring this feature to the international builds as well. There really is not a reason the company would withhold the feature from their international buyers, but crazier things have happened. Until Xiaomi makes a more official announcement we will have to wait to see what Xiaomi has in store for us.
