At the Unpacked event, Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series along with the Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy SmartTags. Well, the main attention was grabbed by the phones (for obvious reasons). But there is something interesting that you can do with SmartTags.
Over the past few days, we have learned some of the cool features that Galaxy S21 comes equipped with. Notably, it features an object eraser tool, which helps users to remove unwanted objects from their images.
Moreover, we also learned about Samsung’s new 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Other features like Google Duo’s auto framing feature, Galaxy Buds Pro hearing enhancements, etc. have also been reported on the internet.
Just like all these Galaxy devices, the Galaxy SmartTags also pack a new feature. SmartTags not only help you track your lost or stolen items, but it also can be used for automation tasks.
According to a tweet by Max Weinbach, you can use Galaxy SmartTags for turning on/off your smart lights, and other smart home devices. Meaning that SmartTags can be used as a smart remote for controlling smart home devices.
Galaxy SmartTags can be assigned two different actions to the tracker
In a short video shared by Max Weinbach, we can see the Galaxy SmartTags being used as a remote control for controlling smart home devices.
He further demonstrates the SmartTags automation capabilities. And as per the video, you can set two different actions to the tracking device.
You can trigger the actions by either pressing once or keep it pressed for some time. Besides, you can also customize them as per your preference under the SmartTags settings present in the Samsung SmartThings app.
Furthermore, you can also trigger the Find My Phone feature by double-tapping the SmartTags button in quick succession. This is something exciting for those who have pre-ordered the Galaxy S21 series, as they will be getting SmartTags bundled with smartphones.
For the unaware, if your pre-order Galaxy S21 or S21+, then you will get a preorder bundle for free that includes the Galaxy Buds Live and SmartTags. While preordering the Galaxy S21 Ultra, you will get free Galaxy Buds Pro and SmartTags.
But one important thing that none of the Galaxy S21 lineups come inside the box with is the charging adapter. Yes! following Apple’s path, Samsung has done want you expected from it.
However, further commenting on the tweet, Weinbach added that the SmartTags automation feature works only with devices that are compatible with the Samsung SmartThings app.
