If you own an OnePlus 7 or an OnePlus 7 Pro, then you would be glad to know that the company is now rolling out the last Android 10-based OxygenOS 10 update for both devices.
OnePlus is known as one of the fastest brands to deliver the latest Android OS updates for its devices. However, the Android 11 update is currently only available for the OnePlus 8 phone (it comes pre-loaded on the 8T). It is yet to expand to older devices in the stable form.
While the update is available as Android 11 Open Beta 1 for the OnePlus 7 series, users are not happy with OnePlus’s attitude towards these devices in terms of Android 11.
With the latest update, OnePlus might have tried to do some damage protection and buy some time as they are readying Android 11. But the customer’s frustration seems legit, as we have officially entered February 2021.
Coming back to the update, it arrives with OxygenOS 10.3.8 (India & Global) and OxygenOS 10.0.11 for the OnePlus 7 in the EU. Besides, it arrives with OxygenOS 10.3.8 (India & Global) and OxygenOS 10.0.11 (EU) for the OnePlus 7 Pro.
This also confirms one thing which is the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro owners may not see Android 11 OxygenOS 11 stable updates on their phones till March 2021.
The new incremental update brings January 2021 security patch
Since the update is incremental in nature, the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro owners should not expect any new features with it. Good thing is that the update brings the latest January 2021 security patch.
Besides, it also updates the GMS package to September 2020. Though the official changelog mentions that the new update improves the system stability, we do not know how it achieves that exactly.
As usual, this will be a phased rollout as it has been pushed via OTA. Meaning that the update will arrive for a small batch of user base before expanding for a wider audience.
However, you can check for the update manually, by heading over to Settings > System Update and check for the latest update. If the update is available, then tap on the Download button.
Considering the nature of the update, if it is still not available then you could probably wait for the official OTA or you can download the Oxygen Updater app from Play Store.
It basically grabs the firmware update from OnePlus’ official servers and downloads the update package file in zip format. You can later put this package file in your phone’s local storage and head over to Settings > System Update > Local Update and select the package file for a manual update.
