The Google Pixel 3a screen corners got messed up by an update. This bug has been introduced by the December 2020 update for the device.
An update managed to mess up the screen corners on the Pixel 3a
Like many other OEMs, Google is actually using software to make the square corners on the display look round. That gives the phone a nicer look, and it was working really well, well, until this bug took place. You can see what the issue is in the image below.
The corners are not nearly as round now, which is not something everyone would notice. Still, a user called ch4oswe4ver took to Reddit to show off the issue, and explain what’s going on. He said the following: “So I’ve recently noticed an issue on my Pixel 3a where the normally perfectly round screen corners are not nearly as round”, while he also added: “I can see up under the bezel and almost see the square corner of the actual panel, breaking the illusion.”
He added that he tried hard resetting the phone multiple times, but that it didn’t help. That user is not alone, as a Pixel Forum subscriber, Nikko Mercado, confirmed that the problem is still around, as did a number of other users.
The fix if hopefully coming in the March update
This will hopefully be amended in the March update that is coming around. Interestingly enough, this issue seems to be affecting only the Pixel 3a, not the Pixel 3a XL. At least we haven’t seen any reports regarding that phone.
In the grand scheme of things, this is not a major issue, far from it. The phone is just as functional as it was before, and this does not affect its functionality one bit. The thing is, it’s noticeable, and can be quite annoying once you notice it.
It kind of breaks the design of the phone. It’s completely understandable that people are complaining about this, of course. Google may address the issue before the fix comes, we’ll have to wait and see if it will happen or not. We just hope that the company is aware of it by now.
