Instagram has released ‘recently deleted’ feature in order to allow users to recover removed content. As announced in a company blog post you can now recover a whole range of recently deleted content from your Instagram.
Instagram has gone through a period of change over the last few months with various innovations coming in for creators, businesses as well as regular users.
Reels was one of the main additions to Instagram in 2020. The short-form video feature has divided opinion given how similar it is to TikTok. Even Instagram’s own head has admitted that the company has not yet got the system right just yet.
Instagram has also worked to offer more tools for business and professional content creators. Most recently the platform introduced a professional dashboard to allows these individuals to better manage their accounts.
This ‘recently deleted’ feature introduction seems like a relatively simple change. However, as reported by SlashGear, it will be of great help to those indecisive individuals and those who want to recovery content after a hack.
Instagram introduces ‘recently deleted’ recovery
Instagram will therefore allow you to recover any content that you have intentionally or otherwise deleted. The blog post seemed to suggest that the ability to recover content after a hack was the main reason for bringing this feature in.
Instagram’s ‘recently deleted’ feature is the equivalent of a trash can or a bin on other platforms. Any deleted photos, videos, reels, IGTV videos, and stories will now get saved in this folder for you to recover more easily.
The amount of time the content stays recoverable varies depending on its type. Deleted stories that are not in your archive will last just 24 hours. Whilst all other pieces of content will last a full 30 days to give you a chance to restore them.
Instagram clarifies that once an item has been permanently deleted from the folder, it is not necessarily gone straight away. It could take up to 90 days to complete the deletion process. This is because Instagram holds data for a period in the event of a data loss or other such event.
To help with security, Instagram says you will have to prove you are the “rightful account holder” in order to recover your content. This also applies when permanently deleting content as well.
You can find the ‘recently deleted’ folder by going to Settings in the Instagram app. From there go to the Account option then you will see a ‘recently deleted’ option on the list. From there you can recover or permanently delete content as you see fit.
