The Galaxy Watch Active 4 Could Run Google's Unified Wear OS

Just when you thought you couldn’t learn anymore about the new Wear OS platform, a leak pops up about the upcoming Galaxy Watch Active 4.

What about the Galaxy Watch Active 3? As it turns out, Samsung may be skipping it and jumping straight to the 4 instead. A new leak from Twitter user Ice Universe states that the next watch in Samsung’s Active line will be the Galaxy Watch Active 4, and that it will run on the new Wear OS platform Google announced at IO.

What’s more is that Ice Universe lists off a few specs to top things all off. Ice Universe is well-known for leaks that pan out, but a leak is still a leak. However if the information is accurate then Samsung could have an interesting device on its hands.

The Galaxy Watch Active 4 will run on the new Wear OS

Google says the new Wear OS promises better performance over the current version. In part thanks to lower power cores and Samsung’s contribution via the parts of Tizen OS that are integrated into it.

According to the leaked information, that better performance could also be the result of a chipset built on a 5nm process. Which the Galaxy Watch Active 4 is now rumored to be running on. Compared to current Wear OS chipsets, this would certainly be an improvement.

Though how much of an improvement would have to wait until details are confirmed. In addition to the 5nm process the watch could also come in different versions. The leak suggests that Samsung could use Titanium alloy, Aluminum, and/or stainless steel.

Of course Samsung could offer one or all of these models.

The watch could have a narrower bezel than the Galaxy Watch Active 2

If extremely narrow bezels are your thing, then you might be in luck. The Galaxy Watch Active 4 is rumored to come with more narrow bezels than the Galaxy Watch Active 2.

It isn’t clear how much of a difference there will be, though. The display is also rumored to be using 2D glass instead of 2.5D. Samsung confirmed it would be launching a new smartwatch later this year that would run on this platform. It was believed that the Galaxy Watch 4 would be this device. But it seems possible that the Galaxy Watch Active 4 could be what Samsung was referring to. Both watches could also run on the operating system.
