Unlocked Galaxy S10 Units In The US Get May Security Update

Samsung may have already started rolling out the June 2021 Android security patch to its devices, but it’s not done sending out the current month’s security update yet. The unlocked Galaxy S10 units in the US are now receiving the May 2021 Android security patch. The update comes a couple of weeks after the international variants of the 2019 Galaxy flagships received it.

The latest update for the unlocked units of the Galaxy S10 series in the US carries the firmware version G97xU1UES5GUD1. The new software is unlikely to pack any new features and/or enhancements, except for the security vulnerability fixes for this month.

The May security update for most other Galaxy flagships contained some camera performance improvements. Samsung also promised improved file sharing between Galaxy devices using Quick Share. It’s unfortunate that the same improvements aren’t coming over to the unlocked Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e, and Galaxy S10+ in the US. Even the carried-locked variants of these phones stateside got those minor improvements. Hopefully, Samsung will include them in the June update for the unlocked units.

May security update reaches the unlocked Galaxy S10 units in the US

It has been a fairly long wait but if you own an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S10, S10e, or the S10+ and live in the US, then the May security update is finally on your way. You can download it by navigating to Settings » Software update on your phone and then tapping on Download and install. The rollout has just begun, so you may need to wait for a few days to receive the update over the air (OTA). You should get a notification prompting you to download the OTA file once it becomes available for your phone.

As said before, Samsung, which is the world’s No. 1 smartphone vendor, has already started rolling out the June security update to its devices. The Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G are the first two phones to receive the new Android security maintenance release (SMR). More Galaxy smartphones and tablets should join the party in the coming days. Google has yet to detail the contents of the June 2021 SMR. It usually publishes the latest security bulletin in the first week of the new month.

As for the May update, it contains fixes for three critical and dozens of high and moderate-risk vulnerabilities found on Android OS. This month’s release also patches 23 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. SVEs are software vulnerabilities exclusive to Samsung devices.
