Google has released Android 12 Beta 2.1. This is not a major update, but it is an update that improves the stability of the OS. Android 12 Beta 2 was stable enough on its own, but Google wanted to squash some additional bugs on the road to a stable release.

This update is rolling out as we speak, and if you’re already rocking Android 12 Developer Preview or Beta build, you’ll get it OTA (Over The Air). Google did release a changelog on its official website, to let us know what’s changing.

Android 12 Beta 12.1 squashes bugs, and improves OS stability

This update will fix some lock screen issues. Some users were unable to access things on the lock screen. For example, they were unable to swipe down from the notification shade, swipe away notifications, and / or swiping up to unlock the phone.

For some users, weather and calendar information did not appear in the At a Glance widget placed on the home or lock screen. Well, that issue should not be present any longer following this update.

You also shouldn’t experience flickering or jittery animations when accessing recent apps with gesture navigation. Some users did have such issues in the Android 12 Beta 2 build.

Camera and microphone permission indicators tended to get stuck for some people. Only restarting the phone would fix the issue. Well, this update does the same, as it aims to prevent that from happening.

There was also an issue when using the Android Emulator with an Android Virtual Device (AVD) running Android 12. It prevented the AVD from connecting to the Internet in some cases.

The last entry in the changelog says that this update will fix the issue where after taking Beta and resetting the device, some users got stuck on the setup wizard.

Android 12 stable build is not far at this point, it may arrive in August

As you can see, this is a quality of life update without any new features, at least based on the changelog. Google is looking to squash as many bugs as it can now, though. A stable build of Android 12 is not far at this point.
