Walmart's $30 4K Android TV Set-Top Box Is Now Available To Buy

Walmart has been quickly rolling out its own electronics brand, with everything from laptops, to tablets and everything in between. And now you can add Android TV to that list.

The Walmart onn. 4K Streaming device is less than $30, coming in at $29.88, and it is fairly impressive for that price. Walmart managed to undercut even Google on this one. And it’s one of the cheapest 4K streamers out there – Roku has one that is a few bucks cheaper. Walmart also has an onn. FHD streaming stick that will be available in the very near future. That one will be $25. So you might as well as spend the $5 extra to get 4K quality.

Perhaps the most surprising thing here is that it is not using Google TV. Instead, this is just running on plain old Android TV. And considering the price, and the fact that Walmart is still new to all this, don’t expect many if any updates. So you likely won’t see Google TV.

How does it perform?

Given the price, you would be forgiven to think that this is “too good to be true”. But according to 9to5Google, who has a unit in hand, it seems to perform pretty well. It does have Dolby Audio, along with 4K UHD output. There’s also support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi on the unit.

The overall performance was said to be pretty good, and everything loaded fairly quickly. So that’s good to hear here.

The remote is essentially the Google reference design remote, and has dedicated buttons for Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and HBO MAX. The reference design isn’t a bad thing, it’s not the best looking remote, but it won’t be easy to lose either, which is a big plus.

You can purchase the 4K streamer from Walmart now, while the FHD model will be available online soon. Though it is available in some stores now.
