Motorola launched its first-gen Edge series flagships in April last year. The company is already due for the sequel and it appears the wait wouldn’t be much longer now. The ever-so-reliable industry insider Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, claims that the Motorola Edge 20 series (name not official) will launch “at the very end of July”. Mr. Blass isn’t providing an actual date for the unveiling of the new devices though.
Motorola Edge 20 series to arrive at the very end of July
After a nearly two-year gap, Motorola returned to the flagship smartphone market with the Edge series last year. The Moto Z3, which launched in August 2018, was the company’s last true flagship. It is now preparing to introduce the second-gen Edge series flagships in the coming weeks. And this time around, there will be three of them. There were two Motorola Edge models last year – the Edge and the Edge+.
We don’t yet know the market names of the Motorola Edge 20 series, except that one of them is said to be called Edge 20 Lite. However, multiple leaks in the past have revealed that the three phones are codenamed Berlin (Berlin NA for North America), Kyoto, and PStar. A major spec leak earlier this week, courtesy of none other than Evan Blass, also revealed what these phones will bring to the table.
The Motorola PStar appears to be the highest-end and the only true flagship model in this year’s Edge series. Key highlights of this phone include a 6.67-inch FHD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 870 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, an under-display fingerprint sensor, a 4,500mAh battery, and a 108-megapixel primary camera.
In fact, the leaked specs suggest that all three Motorola Edge 20 phones will feature a 108-megapixel camera at the back. However, the secondary lenses differ from model to model. Motorola is using an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with macro mode on the Berlin NA and Kyoto, which will reportedly arrive as Edge 20 Lite. Both of these devices also get a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
The Motorola Berling and PStar, meanwhile, get a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens with macro mode. The third sensor on these two phones is also a telephoto lens, offering 3X and 5X zoom respectively. The front-facing camera is a 32-megapixel sensor on all three (or four with Berlin NA) models.
Motorola has yet to announce when it plans to unveil its next-gen Edge series phones. However, with the latest report suggesting a lunch by “July end,” we could soon see some teasers from the company.
