Latest Evernote Update Brings More Intuitive UI For Chromebooks

The popular note-taking app Evernote has been updated with a redesigned layout tailored for Chromebooks. Now rolling out on the Google Play Store, the new version makes the Evernote experience on the big-screen Chrome OS devices more intuitive and fluid.

This redesign brings big changes to Evernote Home, the dashboard that you first see when you launch the app. It shows various cards for your notes, tasks, calendar entries, lists, etc. On mobile, these cards are available in a scrollable column.

But since Chromebooks have bigger screens, Evernote will now arrange the cards in two columns when using the Chrome OS devices in portrait orientation. If you switch to the landscape orientation, the cards appear in three columns. This change allows the app to utilize the entire screen real-estate in Chromebooks while also making it easier for users to quickly find a card.

Some people might find Evernote Home cluttered with too many cards. Thankfully, the company has been mindful of that and allows users to customize the dashboard according to their needs. You can choose what appears on the Home. Evernote also lets you customize the Home background for a personalized touch. An update in February introduced widget support too, allowing users to see their notes and tasks on the device’s homescreen. These little things make it one of the better note-taking and task management apps on Android.

The latest update for Evernote also improves menus for cleaner and faster access. A cover image up top of the dashboard will greet you and also show the day and time. The bottom bar that houses the menu drawer and a search button features a centered floating action button (FAB) to quickly make an entry. The web client doesn’t see any changes to its side navigation panel though.

Evernote for Chromebooks gets a UI overhaul

Android devices come in various sizes. To make apps function properly on all screen sizes, Google has been pushing developers to optimize their apps for the past few years. Evernote, which was rebuilt in late 2020, has also optimized its Android app for big-screen devices. The latest Chromebook-tailored update is another step in that direction.

This update for Evernote is now rolling out globally with the build number 10.30.1. You can click the button below to download or update the app to the latest version from the Google Play Store. It’s always advisable to install apps from trusted sources only.
