'Screen Resolution' Setting Is Coming To Android 13

Android 13 Beta 1 launched recently, as most of you know by now. We’ve already talked about a ton of new additions, but new info keeps on coming, like the one we’re here to talk about. It seems like the ‘Screen resolution’ setting is coming to Android 13.

Google failed to mention this change, though that’s not exactly surprising. The company only highlights some bigger changes, and tends to leave out the rest. Some would say this is a rather significant change, though.

‘Screen resolution’ setting seems to be coming to Android 13

It was discovered by Mishaal Rahman, from Esper. He figured out that Android 13 Beta 1 includes support for switching the resolution in the Settings app. You’ll be able to access this resolution from a ‘Screen resolution’ menu which is located in the Display section of the Settings.

Do note that the change is not live yet, so you won’t be able to access it even if you have Android 13 Beta 1. You can see what it will look like by checking out the image below.

This feature has been available on a number of other OEM skins, including Samsung’s. As you can see, at the moment, this option simply offers you to change the resolution from fullHD+ to QHD+, as the Pixel phone this software is running on has a QHD+ display.

Gaming is the main reason to change the resolution

Why would you change the display resolution, though? Especially considering that it doesn’t really have a major impact on battery life these days. Well, the main reason is…gaming. There is a reason why gaming smartphones come with fullHD+ panels.

Rendering complex graphics requires more graphical power for larger resolutions, and it strains the phone a lot more. FullHD+ resolution is arguably more than enough for basically any smartphone, in general, so… there you go.

If this setting gets implemented in this manner, you’ll have to change the resolution manually before you play some demanding games. That’s not an ideal solution, of course. It would be nice if Google implemented an option for the resolution to change on its own or something like that.

On the flip side, it’s possible this option won’t become available in Android 13 at all. Google often tests such features to not offer them in the final build, or simply wait with their release. We’ll see.
