Waze has announced ‘Retro Mode’, its brand new addition to the app. This change was announced via Google’s website, of course, as Waze is owned by Google, and that’s where its press releases come from.
Waze adds ‘Retro Mode’ to bring back the 70s, 80s, and 90s
So, what is ‘Retro Mode’? This is a temporary addition to the Waze app, and it allows you to do several things. This mode changes the app’s appearance and even the sound of turn-by-turn directions, all of that brings back the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
You can enable this feature by navigating to ‘My Waze’ menu in the app (bottom left corner), and from the next menu tap on “Drive with the 80s”. Then, you’ll want to press the ‘Moods’ option, and choose between three options here, including a lava lamp (70s), a boox box (80s), and a Mac (90s).
You can even change the car appearance as part of this mode. Simply tap on the ‘Car’ option, and choose between a VW bus, a race car, or an SUV. Those three are supposed to represent the 70s, 80s, and 90s, respectively.
You can even change the sound of turn-by-turn directions
That’s not all. You’ll notice that we’ve mentioned you can change the sound of turn-by-turn directions. Simply tap on ‘Voice direction’, and choose from a 70s DJ, an 80s Aerobic Instructor, and a 90s Pop Star.
So, all in all, you can mix and match here. You can choose a car icon that represents the 70s, mood from the 80s, and turn-by-turn directions from the 90s, for example.
This is a rather interesting addition by Waze, that’s for sure. It will provide some fun for you, on your next trip. Do note that this change is not permanent, though, it’s only a temporary feature introduced by Waze. That’s something we’re used to at this point.
