Twitter Is Working To Close The Deal With Elon Musk, CEO Confirms

Twitter is working closely with Elon Musk to finally close the deal. Speaking at Twitter’s annual shareholder meeting, CEO Parag Agrawal said they are “working through the transaction process,” Engadget reports.

Twitter’s takeover by Elon Musk has become an intricate issue for both parties. The deal was supposed to be finalized weeks ago, but Musk suddenly postponed the transaction due to the fake users and spambots on the platform. Since then, nobody knows what has been happening between Twitter’s board and Elon Musk.

In Twitter’s annual shareholder meeting, Agrawal tried to clarify the situation for current shareholders. Agrawal said while moving forward with the deal; he tries to focus on the company. “Even as we work towards closing this transaction, our teams and I remain focused on the important work we do every day to serve the public conversation.”

The meeting was supposed to be for Twitter shareholders, and Musk himself is one of those shareholders. Many people expected to see Musk attending the meeting. However, he didn’t attend.

Current Twitter shareholders want to know about their stocks

Before the meeting, Twitter had stated that it would not respond to any questions regarding Musk’s takeover of the company. But this was the most important thing that shareholders wanted to know.

The first question raised at the meeting was what would happen to the shareholders’ stock if Musk could complete the takeover. However, Twitter’s General Counsel Sean Edgett, said, “We aren’t able to address these questions today.”

Moreover, the future of the company’s content moderation policy was another vague question for the shareholders. Reshaping Twitter’s content moderation policies seems to be a priority for Musk, as he previously outlined his master plan for the company’s future.

Agrawal said they remain “focused” on existing policies and “decreasing reliance on user reports.” Agrawal also stated that “silencing political commentary is antithetical to our commitment to free speech.”

This meeting was also the last meeting Jack Dorsey attended because he stepped down as Twitter CEO in November. Of course, Musk seems to be in contact with him over the company’s future. Maybe he would return after Musk’s takeover.
