Motorola is working on its next-gen foldable smartphone, which is rumored to debut as the Razr 3. Expected to go official over the next few weeks, the device has leaked in an official-looking promo video and some real-life images, giving us a glimpse of its design.
For starters, Motorola refers to the new foldable as Moto Razr 2022 in the promo video. It’s unclear whether that will be the marketing name of the device. Anyways, the video shows the big external screen and the dual-camera array on the upper half of the phone, complete with an LED flash. The lower half features the iconic Moto logo with the “razr” branding towards the bottom. The full Motorola bending also appears on the hinge area.
The Moto logo doesn’t appear to include a fingerprint scanner. That should mean the biometric sensor will reside within the power button on the side of the phone. Unfortunately, the leaked video doesn’t show the phone’s screen side much. But from what we could see, the Motorola Razr 3 will get a boxier body than the previous model. The corners also appear to be more rounded. That’s pretty much confirmed by the real-life images, which are from an event where a company executive showcased the device (via).
As you can see in the images below, the big chin that made for a rather unusual look of the original Razr is gone for good. The foldable’s frame design, particularly around the hinge area, still doesn’t look as premium and refined as that of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup. But the Motorola Razr 3 would still mark a huge leap forward in terms of design language.
Motorola Razr 3 specs are quite promising too
The Motorola Razr 3 has been subject to numerous leaks in the past, revealing a great deal about its specs. We are expecting a flagship-grade smartphone featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with up to 12GB of RAM. The 6.7-inch flexible OLED display will reportedly boast an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The dual-camera array that you can see in the leaked promo video array would include a 50-megapixel primary shooter and a 13-megapixel lens possibly for ultrawide shots. A 32-megapixel camera on the front will let you take selfies and make video calls.
Reports have suggested that the Motorola Razr 3 battery capacity may remain unchanged from the previous gen. But a company executive recently rubbished those claims. So we expect some upgrades there too. Rumors are that the new Razr foldable will break cover in late July or early August. That would put the device directly against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4, which should arrive in the second week of August. It appears Motorola is ready to take the Korean behemoth heads-on. This foldable war should be interesting to watch.
