Spotify has launched a new website to sell concert tickets to the fans directly. The tickets are only available for US-based concerts, but the company may expand the program to more countries in the future.
This is not the first time that Spotify has acted as a tickers seller. The company already collaborates with Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, and See Tickets to sell concert tickets through its Live Events Feed. However, Spotify is now directly selling tickets to the fans and charging customers a booking fee. Also, it’s not responsible for determining the ticket price.
As per what Spotify says on its legal page, it is selling tickets “on behalf of third parties which can include venues, event promoters, fan clubs and artists as their disclosed ticketing agent.”
Spotify sells tickets to fans, but it is still a test project
In order to buy concert tickets directly from Spotify, you need to open an account first. Then you can head to Tickets.spotify.com and buy tickets. Currently, tickets for artists like Limbeck, Tokimonsta, and Annie DiRusso are available.
Also, the website lacks support for printable tickets. Spotify says fans must provide email confirmation and a valid ID at the venue’s box office to get their tickets. While this might seem like a tedious process, it helps Spotify to prevent users from reselling their tickets on the black market.
“At Spotify, we routinely test new products and ideas to improve our user experience. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience, and others serve only as important learnings,” Spotify spokesperson Carling Farley said to The Verge. “Tickets.spotify.com is our latest test. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”
The Chinese video-sharing app TikTok is also taking the same strategy and has recently started to sell tickets to the fans through a partnership with Ticketmaster. TikTok also wants to be a rival to Spotify by launching a dedicated music streaming service.
