Samsung is rolling out the September 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3. Both foldables are currently picking up the new security update in Europe. A global rollout, including the US, should follow in the coming days.
The September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is rolling out with firmware version F711BXXS2CVHF in Europe. That for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is F926BXXS1CVHF. Neither model is getting any new features, because Samsung just released the One UI 4.1.1 update for both. But there are a lot of vulnerability fixes in the latest software package. According to the Korean firm, the new SMR patches over 50 privacy and security issues on its Android devices.
This release includes some high-severity Android OS patches from Google, but the majority of fixes are Galaxy-specific. Samsung says it has watched flaws in several critical device components such as Photo Editor, Video Editor, System UI, Call Background Provider, and Telecom Application. The company didn’t detail some patches due to security reasons, to prevent exploitation before users could install the patch.
If you’re using the Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Galaxy Z Fold 3 in Europe, the September SMR should be available to you anytime now. You’ll be prompted to download the update over the air (OTA) once available on your unit. You can also check for OTA updates manually from the Settings app, under the Software update section. Users in other markets can also look forward to receiving this update soon.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 recently received the One UI 4.1.1 update
The September security update for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes just days after Samsung released One UI 4.1.1 for the duo. The latter is the company’s latest iteration of its Android-based custom software. Debuting on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 last month, it brings features like OCR (optical character recognition), which lets you extract text from images. You also get new and improved gestures, an improved Samsung Keyboard, and other new features.
Samsung has also seeded One UI 4.1.1 to several other flagship models, including the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Tab S8, and Galaxy Tab S7 series. Tablets and Fold series devices got Android 12L with the update. It brought a persistent taskbar and other features that make better use of the big screens. If you’re using any of these devices and haven’t yet received One UI 4.1.1, be prepared to receive it in the coming days.
