OnePlus announces its very first keyboard, and it's fully customizable

OnePlus is currently announcing the global variant of the OnePlus 11, along with a bunch of other devices. Amongst the announced products is also the very first OnePlus keyboard. Its official name is ‘OnePlus Featuring Keyboard 81 Pro’. An odd name for sure.

The first OnePlus keyboard is “engineered with Keychron technology”

This is a mechanical keyboard “engineered with Keychron technology”. OnePlus says that this is the first product released as part of its co-creation platform “OnePlus Featuring”, well, at least globally.

This keyboard comes with Marble-mallow keycaps, and the company claims they offer “the ultimate typing experience”. It is supposed to be comfortable and functional at the same time.

This keyboard has been designed by the “OnePlus team”, says the company. It has an alert slider, adopted from OnePlus smartphones. There is also a red ‘esc’ button on it, and a rotary knob. That rotary knob is customizable, as we expected.

It has an aluminum body, and tactile linear switches

The OnePlus Featuring Keyboard 81 Pro has an aluminum body. It utilizes a thermoplastic material in order to “produce a soft bounce in each press for ultimate comfort, enhanced hand-feel, and optimal durability”.

OnePlus included optimized tactile switches here, linear ones. It is also equipped with a specialized double gasket to produce less sound, and be comfortable at the same time.

This keyboard is expected to work well with Windows, MacOS, Linux, and Android. OnePlus says that users can also enjoy open-source firmware, such as QMK and VIA. Keys can also be remapped, and RGB lighting effects are a part of the experience.

The fact that the keys are hot-swappable also enhances its customization aspect. We still don’t have the pricing or any availability information, though. Chances are OnePlus will share more information during the day, likely towards the end of its press conference. We’ll update this article accordingly.
