Pokémon Sleep is preparing to launch, and will arrive on Android and iOS smartphones later this year. If you’re unfamiliar with the gamified app, that’s understandable. The Pokémon Company initially announced it around four years ago with a planned launch in 2020. So it would unsurprisingly be shifted to the back of people’s minds until it was almost a distant memory.
News of the launch was officially revealed on February 27 during the Pokémon Day 2023 event, where numerous other announcements were made. Including DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and much more. Pokémon Sleep is essentially a mobile game with some app-like tendencies. There are certain features and gameplay you can access during the day, while it tracks your sleep data at night.
Pokémon Sleep will track your sleep data to help you catch ’em all
To keep with the theme, Pokémon Sleep will feature Snorlax as a main character, alongside sleep researcher Professor Neroli. As you lay down to go to bed, the game can “measure, record, and analyze your sleep.” It then uses this data to toss your sleep quality into one of three different sleep types – dozing, snoozing, or slumbering.
You will essentially catch Pokémon that fall under the same sleep type as you, and then they will gather around Snorlax the next morning. The Pokémon Company says that users can even potentially catch some rare Pokémon the more they play. As users may eventually end up finding some rare sleep styles “that most may never see.”
Users can also augment their gameplay experience using the new Pokémon GO Plus+ accessory. This device is designed to provide the same function as the game (track your sleep data), and allows the user to start measuring sleep with the press of a button. Pokémon Sleep will launch sometime this Summer while the Pokémon GO Plus+ accessory launches on July 14.
