Samsung brings Galaxy S23's charging bypass to more devices

Samsung introduced a nifty new gaming feature with the Galaxy S23 series earlier this month. The new phones let you bypass charging while playing games, thus keeping the handsets cool and preserving battery health. This feature, called Pause USB Power Delivery, is now rolling out to older Galaxy devices, including some mid-range models.

Pause USB Power Delivery is available on the latest version of Samsung’s Game Booster app, which comes preinstalled on the Galaxy S23 trio. Users of older Galaxy devices are receiving an update for the app to add the new feature. All recent flagships, including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and more appear to be getting the update. The feature is also rolling out to some mid-range models, including the Galaxy A33 5G, Galaxy A53 5G, and Galaxy A73 5G.

If you’re using a Galaxy device, you can check for updates for the Game Booster app via the Galaxy Store (link below). Version 5.0.03.0 of the app adds the Pause USB Power Delivery feature (via). The update weighs just under 10MB. Note that the new version may not be available for every eligible Galaxy smartphone in all markets at once. You may have to wait a day or two to get it. If you don’t see any updates today, wait a few days and check again.

More Galaxy devices get Samsung’s charging bypass feature

When you launch a game on a Galaxy smartphone, Samsung’s Game Booster kicks in automatically to optimize the device’s performance so you get the best possible gaming experience. The new Pause USB Power Delivery feature resides in Game Booster settings. It’s a simple toggle that immediately stops charging the phone (if you have more than 20% charge left) and sends the input power directly to the processor. The battery remains unused as long as you keep the feature on and play games.

With no charging-discharging of the battery, your phone will produce less heat. This also helps extend the lifespan of the battery in the long run. These kinds of features are usually only found in dedicated gaming phones, but Samsung has now made them mainstream. And it isn’t keeping the feature exclusive to the Galaxy S23 series. The Korean firm is letting the entire Galaxy family take advantage of it. You can click the button below to download the latest version of the Game Booster app on your Galaxy smartphone.
