Samsung is rolling out the One UI 5.1 update to the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy S21 FE in the US. The rollout began recently and may take a few days to reach all eligible users across the nation. The new One UI version has already been rolled out to these phones in most international markets.
The Galaxy S21 FE started getting the One UI 5.1 update in Europe around the same time as the Galaxy S22 series and the latest Samsung foldables. Users in the US, meanwhile, got an update with only the February security patch a couple of weeks back. The story was the same for the regular Galaxy S21 models. The new One UI version was missing for all of them. Last week, the Korean firm released One UI 5.1 for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra stateside. The FE model has now joined the party too.
As of this writing, Samsung is pushing the big update to the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S21 FE in the US. We can confirm the rollout on Comcast and Verizon networks. Users on other carriers should also get the update within the next few days. The factory-unlocked units shouldn’t be left behind for much longer either. The new firmware build number for the phone is G990USQU4EWAI (carrier-locked units). The firmware version for the unlocked variants may vary slightly but they will get the same goodies.
Speaking of goodies, this update contains plenty. While the security patch remains on February 2023 (the March patch isn’t available yet), One UI 5.1 brings a host of new features and improvements to your Galaxy device. As Verizon mentions in its release notes, the update brings enhancements to the Camera, Gallery, Wallpaper, Widgets, Samsung Internet, multitasking, and more. Bixby Text Call now supports English, while Samsung Notes allows remote collaboration via Google Meet.
Galaxy Z Flip is also getting One UI 5.1 in the US
All of these goodies and security enhancements are also rolling out to the first-gen Galaxy Z Flip in the US. Samsung is currently updating the LTE model of the original Flip to One UI 5.1. The update comes with firmware versions F700USQU5IWB1 (carrier-locked) and F700U1UEU5IWB1 (unlocked). It should soon be available for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G as well. As usual, you can go to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install to check for updates manually. This is probably the last major update for the Galaxy Z Flip. It will not get Android 14.
