Samsung is readying a new mid-range smartphone with a 108MP camera. Sources have told SamMobile that the Galaxy M54 5G will arrive within the next few months featuring a 108MP primary shooter on the back. It’s a notably higher resolution camera than the 50MP sensor found on the back of the Galaxy A54 5G, which is rumored to go official in a couple of weeks.
Samsung’s Galaxy M series devices aren’t as widely available as Galaxy A phones. The company primarily sells these phones in price-conscious markets. Unsurprisingly, they come a little cheaper than their Galaxy A counterpart. The Korean firm does that by cleverly cutting corners. However, the Galaxy M53 5G did one up on the Galaxy A53 5G last year. It arrived with a 108MP camera whereas the latter got a 64MP shooter.
Rumors have it that Samsung is downgrading the Galaxy A54 5G to a 50MP primary camera this year. By “downgrade,” we mean a lower resolution sensor and not necessarily worse image quality. Higher resolution doesn’t always mean better photos. It wouldn’t have been surprising if the company did the same with the Galaxy M54 5G. But not to be. The new premium Galaxy M model will retain its predecessor’s 108MP camera.
The Galaxy A73 5G also featured a 108MP camera last year. But with the Korean firm discontinuing the Galaxy A7x lineup, the Galaxy M54 5G may be the only mid-range Samsung smartphone with an ultra-high-resolution camera this year. There aren’t any other devices in the pipeline that are worthy of it. The Galaxy A54 5G will be the most premium mid-range Galaxy device this year.
Galaxy M54 5G rumored specs
Rumors about the Galaxy M54 5G haven’t been as frequent as the Galaxy A54 5G. That’s likely because the latter is a global device while the former is a regional one. Also, the Galaxy A model is nearing its launch. Nonetheless, we know that the Galaxy M54 5G will feature the same Exynos 1380 processor as its Galaxy A counterpart. We are expecting up to 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
As for the design, Samsung is keeping things consistent across the Galaxy lineup this year, and likely beyond too. It is creating a brand identity for Galaxy smartphones. The rear camera array, which includes three sensors on most models, is aligned vertically with each sensor protruding out of the back panel individually. The company is doing away with camera bumps. We should see the Galaxy M54 5G in leaked renders in the coming weeks with the phone expected to go official in April.
